We have 6 Sabbatical Officers elected each year by the students of UCD.
The Sabbatical Officers are here to support you. They work hard organising events for you throughout the year and support students in their time of need.
President Joanna Siewierska
My name is Joanna, and I'm your SU President. I come from Poland originally and I grew up around Coolock, on the north side of Dublin. I've been involved in the student movement for almost 6 years now, so I'm really excited for the year! I've also just finished studying Law and Social Justice, so I have a great passion for human rights and equality.
I am looking forward to working with the team to improve your experience in UCD and ensure you have access to the supports that you need. The Union also provides opportunities to get involved in campaigns that are important to you, make friends and get the most out of your time in here.
UCD is a massive University, but it's made up of hundreds of communities of students and staff that are incredibly welcoming and caring. Join a society or sports club that looks interesting, get involved in events with your peer mentors and class reps and take your time with settling in. Everything will be alright, and we are always here to support you!
Education Officer Brian Treacy
My name is Brian, I'm 21 and I’m from Tipperary. I came up to Dublin in 2016 to study Social Science (majoring in Sociology and Social Policy) and I have just graduated from UCD with a 1st Class Honours.
I was a Class Rep in my 2nd year and final year in UCD. I was also Higher Education Editor of the University Observer in the 2018/19 academic year. I am a big believer in finding the right mix between your academics and enjoying yourself.
I’m responsible for all undergraduate students' academic issues, supporting students with every aspect of their college work. If you or your class are having an academic issue please know that you can always send me an email, give me a call, or drop into our SU offices to arrange an appointment. I am here to assist you in getting the best out of your degree and time here at UCD.
Graduate Officer Conor Anderson
My name is Conor Anderson, and I am the Graduate Officer for UCDSU. I completed my undergraduate degree in Los Angeles, then moved to Dublin to get my master's in archaeology here at UCD.
My advice to new graduate students is to get involved, early! Make connections with your fellow students and establish yourself in some kind of society or community; you won't have the time once your degree really gets underway. I am here to help you do that by organising events and providing resources. I am also here to act as an advocate if you come up against a roadblock in your education, whether that be conflict with a supervisor, access issues, or the need to appeal an academic result. If you want to get involved with the Union and help to make this university a better place for students, I am happy to facilitate that as well!
Welfare Officer Úna Carroll
My name is Úna and I’m your Welfare Officer. I’m 21 years old and I’ve been studying Linguistics and Information & Communication Studies here in UCD. I’m a bubbly, music fanatic from County Louth, and am always up for a cup of tea and a chat.
It’s my job to help support you and look out for your health and wellbeing as a student. I’m responsible for student welfare issues such as mental, sexual, and emotional health, as well as all of those glorious free condoms! As amazing as college can be with its social events, and new atmosphere, it’s important to remember to look after yourself. I’m here alongside various other supports on campus to help you get the best out of your time at UCD.
Don’t forget that we all do things at our own pace and experience college differently. Looking out for your mates and building a good support network around you will help you get through college much easier! Drop me a line or pop into the SU corridor for an appointment at any time.
Campaigns & Engagement Officer Katie O'Dea
Hey, I’m Katie, your Campaigns & Engagement Officer this year. I’ve just finished a degree in History & Politics (who says you can’t get a job after an Arts degree, hey?) Having spent my first year in another university *ahem* Trinity wankers * I came to UCD for my 2nd and 3rd years and got involved in the Union when I ran for Environmental Campaigns Coordinator at the end of my first year here.
It’s my job to keep the Union socials up to date, work on all things campaigns, and to support our Class Reps. Gimme a shout if you’re interested in getting involved whether that’s through the Campaigns Crew, becoming a Class Rep, or if you have an unreal idea you think we’re missing! #YupTheDubs
Entertainments Officer Tom Monaghan
Well, what's the craic! My name is Tom, the big GAA head of the Union and your Entertainments Officer for the year! I have been working with UCDSU Entertainments since the day I started in UCD and have worked on all major events here over the last 4 years. I am currently in my second term as a Sabbatical Officer and I'm your first point of contact for making the most out of your social lives in college. Whether you want to organise a trip to Amsterdam with your mates, get free-in and work with the many nightclubs around Dublin, get involved with sports clubs and societies, or just to have a kick about on the grass on a sunny day - give me a shout and I will make it happen! If you have an idea for a cool event in UCD or if you just want to get involved and gain savage experience in event management, shoot me an email on firstname.lastname@example.org. #Mayo4Sam
